PCOS and Weight Loss

Lately I have come across many of my weight loss clients whose main issue of weight gain was due to PCOS. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that causes irregular menstrual cycles due to a lack of monthly ovulation and increased levels of androgens (male harmones). The majority of PCOS women, but not all, are overweight or obese, and they are at higher-than-average risk of acquiring diabetes. PCOS-related hormonal abnormalities, insulin resistance, and inflammation make it difficult for women to lose weight. However, even a minor 5 per cent weight loss can increase insulin resistance, hormone levels, menstrual cycles, fertility, and general wellbeing in PCOS women. This syndrome must be managed with care as they are approximately three times as likely to be diagnosed with anxiety and depression than people without PCOS. A healthy diet goes a long way in influencing our body and those diagnosed with PCOS can take advantage of a healthy diet.Below are some of the chang...

Staying Healthy,Resilient & Relentless

During these unpredictable times, Weigh yourself! Your house is stocked with groceries, your gym is closed, you have a lot more time on the couch and near the fridge. Your activity level is probably down. Your snack/consumption is probably up. While everyone worries about the virus, many are also letting other parts of their health deteriorate and setting themselves up for other health issues. High levels of stress and anxiety can cause changes in your weight, and weaken your immune system. . Grow your resiliency during this time, not your waistline, not your blood pressure, and not your cholesterol. Watch what you eat and drink, and that doesn't mean watch food and drink go into your mouth. Some of you will gain weight. Some will lose. Most of us have broken out of our routines right now, which for many is not a bad thing. Use this time to develop new habits that you always wanted, but said you didn’t have time for. Stay healthy. Stay resilient. And stay relentless!

Monsoon Season:Eat seasonably

The country has never been as connected as it is now. This relentless reduction in distances of all kind - communications, logistics - means  we can eat produce from all over the nation. The advantages of this convenience are many, but the produce that reaches us is not at its best and freshest. When an orange travels to you from say Nagpur, it has to be shipped before it can ripen on the tree. That means its harvested before its time, packed up in cold storage, and flown to a place nearer you, where it is artificially ripened. Chilling it on the way over lessens its taste; the artificial ripening in hothouses changes the texture and the taste. So the fruit that has travelled the Indian railway for you may not transport you to any delight. It will however lighten your wallet considerably. While retailers work to reduce the transit times and find better ways to ripen produce, we should also remember that the heating and cooling that the produce goes through alters its nutrition...

Doctors should counsel healthy people on diet, exercise

Lifestyle counseling could help protect the long-term heart health of adults who aren’t yet at high risk for heart attack and stroke, a panel of medical experts says. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force last week reaffirmed its 2012 recommendation that doctors consider extra counseling on diet and exercise even among their low-risk patients. “The task force encourages primary care clinicians to talk to their patients about eating healthy and physical activity,” said task force vice chair Susan Curry. If patients are interested and motivated to make lifestyle changes, doctors should offer to refer them to counseling, she said. Obese people and those who have high blood pressure or cholesterol levels, diabetes, or problems maintaining normal blood sugar levels are at higher risk for heart disease. The task force already advised doctors to offer their high-risk patients intensive behavioral counseling to help prevent heart attack, stroke and other heart-related proble...

Frequent Power cuts:Buzz from twitter

Working on your important project work and suddenly the power cuts-off and you take it very lightly as you have become used to it.Be it a metropolitan like Delhi,Bangalore, kolkata or the smaller cities like Patna,Madurai,Hubli,Kota,Jaipur,Vizag or any major urban gatherings, these power-cuts are affecting our daily lifestyles in one way or another. Power failures are particularly critical at sites where the environment and public safety are at risk. Institutions such as hospitals, sewage treatment plants, mines, etc., will usually have backup power sources, such as standby generators, which will automatically start up when electrical power is lost. But such a huge amount of power outages are making bad examples of the the so called "efficient Power Management" in a developing country like INDIA. In 2008, the Indian government pledged to provide “power for all” by 2012. It’s already near mid 2011 and these power cuts remain to be a big problem. There can be no denials of th...
